We can adapt our projects. If any of them sound like they’d be a good fit for your community or group, drop us a line at hello@storyscouts.co.uk and let’s have a chat!
As we crawled out of lockdown 3 in spring 2021, 64 young families received hand delivered parcels to their homes. Instead of sharing coffee and conversation like a traditional book club we did it a little differently. Families used their voices, bodies and imaginations or items they could find at home to explore the story. A play along experience as they read the book together! Available in BSL & Urdu too.

‘We have kept playing the mystery box game which is really fun. It's great because you don't need any supplies.’
‘[It] reminded me to slow down when reading and ask children questions.’
During half term, families took part in a walking trail in their local postcode area. Finding up to 20 ‘Poetry Points’ using bespoke, child friendly maps. Each point was themed (weather, colours, sounds, traffic, home life, food etc) prompting ideas for exploring the location together through language, senses, movement & play. Families used these prompts to create poems about their neighbourhood. We saw several families during the week, with children leading, following the map & giving directions!
The trail was an opportunity to see the area through inquisitive eyes and hold a sense of celebration & newness in the ordinary places they see every day, as well as venturing slightly further than they might on an ordinary walk. Grown ups said they had discovered new things about the place they live, one saying they had no idea that there was a library so close to home.
Each family recieved a copy of the bound poetry collection including photography from the local area. Available in BSL & Urdu too.
These collections have recently been used by local ESOL groups as inspiration for their learners!

‘Morgana took it to school & read it to the whole class’.
We are currently developing a Primary School cluster version of this project.
We have an ongoing relationship with Manchester South Central Foodbank and since 2021 have provided bespoke, at home creative activity packs which have been distributed to families who receive holiday hunger parcels across South Manchester via local schools. These are packed with games, creative challenges and ideas for getting out and about together during the school holidays at no cost.
We continue to grow our relationship with this foodbank and hope to work with others in the coming months.

“Including Story Scout's fun and interactive activities in our Holiday Hunger parcels is a great way to increase children's confidence as well as providing support for the whole family to engage. We love working with Story Scouts." Heidi Excel, Foodbank Project Manager
Our Book Club on tour! We have delivered our book club in various school and community settings with children aged 5-11. A workshop using our voices, bodies and imaginations, playing along as we read a story together.
We have workshops exploring specific texts, but can also create new, bespoke sessions to focus on curriculum texts or topics your group are working on.
This workshop can be delivered for children or for whole families, introducing parents to new ways of interaction and play when reading and encouraging them to join in.
